If you haven’t been following all the controversy surrounding trail usage on the South Island I’m surprised you found this site. I’m not going to go in to that too much so here’s a link if you want to learn more.
Anyways, Karl and I decided to take the bikes out to Sooke to see if the rumours were true regarding the open logging road access off of Clark Rd. When we got there the gates were closed, but there was a couple guys unloading who said there was a nice trail around the gate and lots of trails on the other side, so we decided to check it out.
Within five minutes of riding we were back in the Farmer Rd trails which was a bit of a drag as we were expecting some sweet new trails. That said, last time we went to Farmer there was some new ‘keep the fuck out’ signs (masked in pleasant words) so finding Clark at this point is a Godsend.
We figured if we were already there we may as well whip up one of the three crazy mountain trails which all connect to various lakes. We pit stopped at two frequented lakes before ending at a small lake at the end of a steep single track made up of large, loose rocks. I had been to this lake with Brett when it was colder and it was still amazing, but now… holy fuck.
